The Westin Grande Sukhumvit Bangkok Hotel Review

The Westin Grande Sukhumvit Bangkok is situated along Sukhumvit Road between Soi 17 and Soi 19. It is near both the Asok BTS Skytrain station and MRT Sukhumvit station. Across the street is Terminal 21, a modern mall with 9 floors, escalators in every direction, cinemas, lots of eateries and weekly themed events.

Booked directly on the official Marriott website, this 5-star hotel is a good choice based on the location and superior service. Arrival

The hotel is easily accessible by car, taxi or public transportation as it’s steps away from subway stations. If arriving by car or taxi, enter the main driveway of the hotel from Sukhumvit Road. Traffic on this Sunday afternoon was not busy.

Entering through the main doors will lead you into the ground floor. As the main lobby is on the 7th floor, immediately head over to the elevators on the ground floor and you will reach the 7th floor in seconds.

Check-In

Upon showing your ID to the front desk, if the front desk notices your Marriott Bonvoy Elite status level of Platinum or higher, there will be no delay before they escort you to the Westin Club Lounge to a dedicated Elite reception desk to check-in.

As you are entering the Westin Club Lounge on the 24th floor, you will be greeted by the Elite reception desk for dedicated Elite check-in service.

For the check-in procedure, you will be asked to order a drink, have a seat and relax.

Within a few minutes, the entire check-in process will be complete while you relax.

The attendant will explain the Platinum, Titanium and Ambassador Elite benefits. Highlights include breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktails in the Westin Club Lounge, complimentary drinks in the hotel bar, complimentary laundry of 2 pieces per day and the option to enjoy breakfast in the hotel restaurant instead of in the lounge was mentioned.

Guestroom

An automatic upgrade to a club level was given. Rooms on the club levels receive more attention such as turndown service.

The room was large and well equipped with a writing desk, office chair and chaise sofa.

The coffee station was an Nespresso machine with 4 Nespresso capsules refilled daily.

4 bottles of water were included and replenished daily.

The bathroom had a separate shower stall with rain shower and a separate bathtub.

The room had a view of the lower Sukhumvit area with the BTS Skytrain line running through.

Afternoon Tea at the Westin Club Lounge

As a Platinum, Titanium or Ambassador Elite member, afternoon tea is included in the lounge. Pastries, desserts, small sandwiches and fruit were served. Any non-alcoholic drinks were also complimentary.

The lounge was almost empty during the afternoon tea service. Many guests prefer to explore the city during the afternoon tea service hours of 12PM-4PM.

Westin Fitness and Pool

Access Westin Fitness on the 8th floor for all the modern cardio and weight equipment you would expect from a 5-star hotel.

Although the gym was empty in the afternoon, there were fitness instructors in the gym to provide personal training service. There were 3 instructors during the afternoon.

Near the gym is the outdoor pool overlooking the city skyline. Upon entry, you will be greeted with a beach towel and a welcome drink.

Evening Cocktails at the Westin Club Lounge

The evening cocktail service was from 6PM-8PM. There were 8 lounge attendants at your service.

All beer, wine and cocktails were complimentary.

The salad bar and fruit selection is consistent every night.

The main food options differ every night. There are 8 menus on rotation. On this day they had beef meatballs, Pad Thai, vegetables, soup, samosas and spring rolls.

A good time to enjoy the evening cocktail service is around 6:30PM when the sun sets on the city.

Breakfast at the Westin Club Lounge

Platinum, Titanium and Ambassador Elite members have a choice of enjoying their complimentary breakfast in either the Westin Club Lounge or the restaurant. Breakfast is served from 6AM to 11AM here.

Western breakfast staples of ham, bacon, sausage and potatoes were plentiful.

Fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, cheese, deli meats and cereals if you prefer a lighter fare.

Choose from fresh juices, milk or whole coconut in addition to you tea or coffee.

Aside from the buffet items, there is also a made-to-order menu in addition to the self-serve options.

For a quieter breakfast experience with attentive service, choose the lounge instead of the restaurant.

Breakfast at the Hotel Restaurant

Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite or higher members can choose to enjoy their breakfast in the hotel restaurant, Seasonal Tastes which is located on the 7th floor. Breakfast is served from 6AM to 10:30AM here.

At 9AM, the restaurant was busy but tables were still available for seating.

6 flavours of yogurt, marble slab ice cream and soy, fat-free, reduced fat or strawberry, chocolate or banana flavoured milk with any cereal and toppings you’d want is healthy way to activate your appetite.

Pancakes, waffles, muffins, breads, bagels and pastries were all freshly prepared.

Freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juices. Choose what fruits or vegetables you want juiced or let the attendant make you a popular combination.

You can also get juice from the juice station with whole coconuts as an option.

The cold station had deli meats and vegetables. Cold-smoked salmon is definitely a favourite.

A Thailand staple, noodle soups are eaten regularly for breakfast. Here you will have a choice of noodles, toppings including meatballs, wontons, chicken, pork and vegetables for the chef to prepare it before your eyes.

Hot and fresh steamed Chinese Dim Sum to contrast the western options of bacon, sausage and hash browns. Other Asian options included stir-fry noodles, stir-fry chicken and vegetables, curry chicken and Indian breads.

Made-to-order eggs any way you want prepared while you wait.

Choose to have breakfast in the hotel restaurant for a more lively experience. Enjoy the live cooking stations and the vast food options.

Considering the location, service and the quality of food, it gives you excellent value if you are a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum or higher Elite member. Based on the proximity to BTS and MRT stations, it is good hotel to stay at to be introduced to Bangkok and Thailand.
